Kempner Band Attendance Policy

Attendance

Band students are REQUIRED to attend all Performances, Activities, and Rehearsals. Attendance will be taken every day at every rehearsal. Every student is expected to be in their spot with their instrument and any other materials needed at the time rehearsal is posted to start.

Grades

Double Major Grade-All Performances, Contests, Football Games, and Concerts will count as a double major grade

Double Daily Grade- All Rehearsals and Sectionals will count as a double daily grade.  

Excused/Unexcused Absences

Unexcused absences will count as a zero in the grade book. Determination of excused and unexcused absences will be at the discretion of the band directors. For all absences, students and/or parents must email Mr. Brodt (paul.brodt@fortbendisd.com) 48 hours prior to the absence or 24 hours after (in case of Emergencies) in order to be excused. All appointments, meetings, etc. should be scheduled on weekdays when there is no rehearsal, after rehearsal time. 

Things that are always considered unexcused:

- Work/Job

- Electives/Club Meetings

- Driver’s Ed

- Babysitting

- Homework/Projects/Tutorials

- Family Recreational Activities i.e. birthdays, vacations, etc….

Consequences may include one or more of the following;

1.   Points lowered from the student’s weekly attendance grade

2.  Student will not be allowed to perform or attend performances for 1 week

3.  Loss of spot in the marching band show

4.  Dismissal from band

Tardy- If a student is tardy they will receive a 75% in the grade book for that event or rehearsal. If a student is more than 45 minutes late they will be considered absent. Students who are late to marching band rehearsals will be required to run laps in order to make up for the Physical Education aspect of the marching band.
